This study analyzes the emic, ethical and dialogic ethnomodels present in a traditional dance of the Costa Rican calypso, from an ethnomathematical approach. The qualitative research used an adaptation of the Data-Driven Theory to examine the relationship between traditional dance practice and mathematical thinking. Patterns were identified that reflect forms of mathematical reasoning typical of the culture of traditional dance dancers, in this case the calypso, which is Afro-Caribbean from Limon. The results show that a dance of the calypso rhythm constitutes a means of expression of mathematical knowledge, integrating artistic, spatial and symbolic dimensions.
