Abstract

Research associated with diversity in mathematics education has been positioned, especially in sociocultural proposals. This concept has been established as an element to take into account in tasks such as curriculum design, class management and evaluation. This article seeks to investigate the way in which the approaches of the sociopolitical approach can contribute to the resignification of diversity in light of the theoretical developments of this perspective. For this, in the first part of the document the main interpretations of diversity assumed in the institutional discourses associated with the curricular references that guide the teaching of mathematics in Colombia are exposed; In the second part, a collective exercise of reflection is reported from the reading of research that has approached diversity as a political aspect; Finally, some contributions are expressed when reinterpreting the concept of diversity from the approaches of the sociopolitical approach, such as the questioning of the interrelation between non-hegemonic knowledge and Western knowledge, the relationships between the researcher and the researched communities, and the role of the teaching of mathematic.
