Measurement patterns in cultural practices of the Wayúu ethnic group of Colombian Guajira

The article aims to describe the length measurement patterns used by the Wayúu cultural group of the Colombian Guajira in some of their daily cultural practices. This process is guided by the comparative methodological model in ethnomathematics. The qualitative ethnographic study, supported by instruments such as: focus group, interviews and questionnaires with open questions, favors obtaining the data in the present investigation. The main theoretical references of the study are the universal mathematical activities proposed by Bishop (1989) and the dimensions of the ethnomathematics program outlined by D’Ambrosio (2000). The results show that this Wayuu ethnic group uses non-westernized length measurement patterns in the observed daily cultural practices.
